Dedication to Cortico Basal Degeneration 

Sten Mortstedt, a businessman and philanthropist, has first hand experience of seeing how the neurodegenerative disease CBD can affect patients suffering from the disease and how it also affects the patient's family.  He realised that CBD had not been receiving much attention by way of funding or research and is determined to change this.

His vision is to bring the best researchers together and openly catalogue all available data regarding CBD in order to find new strategies to cure or slow down the progression, as well as bringing relief for the sufferers. Sten Mortstedt is also the founder of a major trust, which in turn launched CBD Solutions in January 2013. CBD Solutions is fully funded by the trust's charity division. Given that the company is fully funded we can focus all our efforts on research.

CBD is a rare devastating neurodegenerative disease characterized by nerve cell loss and atrophy of specific areas of the brain. The brain of patients with CBD show pathological changes also apparent in patients with frontotemporal dementia (FTLD) and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). These changes involve accumulation of toxic protein aggregates of a brain protein called tau or MAPT (microtubule associated protein tau).  CBD, PSP and FTLD belong to a class of neurodegenerative diseases called taupathies. There is currently no known cause for CBD and no treatment is available to inhibit or slow the disease.

CBD Solutions approach is to supports studies on CBD by collaborating with world leading scientist at Center for Molecular Medicine CMM at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and at University College London Institute of Neurology. The ultimate goals of these studies are to increase scientific understanding on CBD and provide new ways to prevent, treat, and cure the disease.
